Scissor lift rental: electric or diesel? The complete guide for your project

When planning work at height, the scissor lift is often the backbone of efficiency. But the choice between electric and diesel drive is more than a question of fuel - it determines whether the machine is permitted on site, the safety of your team and the cost-effectiveness of the whole project. Luibl Rental helps you choose the optimal machine from our rental fleet.
The electric scissor lift: efficiency in interior work
The electric scissor lift: efficiency in interior work
Electric scissor lifts are the specialists for work without exhaust emissions at the point of use. In modern logistics centres, in shop fitting or in the food industry, they are often the only permitted option because of strict operational emission requirements.
Technical specifications and advantages
The electric models from Luibl Rental, such as the compact machines from Magni or Haulotte, feature precise proportional controls.
- Battery technology: modern lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries allow working shifts of up to 8 hours without intermediate charging.
- Non-marking tyres: these special white tyres prevent abrasion and black streaks on sealed industrial or warehouse floors.
- Dimensions: with widths from 0.76 m, many of our electric scissor lifts fit through standard doors and can be transported in goods lifts.
Case study: maintenance in automotive production
A Luibl Rental customer had to replace the ceiling lighting in a production hall during full operation. An electric scissor lift with a working height of 12 metres was used. Thanks to the silent drive, the maintenance could take place during the regular shift without disturbing communication among the workers on the ground. The narrow design also allowed manoeuvring in tight aisles between racks.
The diesel scissor lift: performance for rough terrain
As soon as the ground becomes uneven, muddy or steep, it is time for the diesel scissor lift. These powerful machines are designed for the demands of shell construction and facade work.
Off-road capability and load capacity
Diesel-powered platforms from Luibl Rental come with features as standard that make them ideal for outdoor use:
- All-wheel drive (4x4) and differential lock: the machines handle gradients of up to 40 % and keep traction even on loose gravel.
- Hydraulic outriggers: to raise the platform safely on uneven ground, automatic outriggers level out height differences within seconds.
- XXL platforms: diesel scissor lifts such as our Magni models offer platform extensions of up to 2 metres. That means more space for material such as insulation boards or window frames and a load capacity of up to 700 kg.
Safety first: inspections and PPE
At Luibl Rental, safety is not an optional extra but standard. Every diesel scissor lift goes through a strict check before it is rented out.
- Inspections and tests: we guarantee that all machines have a valid inspection (once a year) and test (every two years) by a certified inspection technician (Decree No. 508/2009 Coll., Annex 7), unless the manufacturer specifies shorter intervals.
- Fall protection PPE: we expressly point out to our customers that above a certain height, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and anchoring at the designated point in the basket is vital.
- Wind load: unlike electric platforms used indoors, operators of diesel platforms outdoors must keep an eye on the maximum permissible wind speed (usually 12.5 m/s).
Comparing operating costs: rental and logistics
When calculating your project costs, you should consider not only the rental price but also the additional costs. While an electric scissor lift only needs a 230 V socket for overnight charging, fuel logistics (refuelling on site) must be planned for diesel platforms. Luibl Rental offers flexible service options for this, in which we take care of the initial refuelling.
