An electric scissor lift (also: electric scissor work platform, scissor hoist or battery platform) raises people and material vertically. The name derives from the X-shaped interlocking scissor frame that carries the platform. Unlike articulating or telescopic boom lifts, the platform can only move vertically – which makes the design more compact, more stable and better suited to tight hall areas.

Power comes from low-maintenance lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries. Non-marking tyres prevent abrasion marks on epoxy and industrial floors. All machines in the Luibl rental fleet undergo inspections and tests of technical equipment (Decree No. 508/2009 Coll.) and are checked for charge level, hydraulics and emergency stop function before delivery.

For shell construction sites without a paved surface, diesel scissor lifts are the technically correct choice. For everything that takes place in halls, warehouses or on concrete surfaces, the electric version is the safer, cleaner and quieter solution.

Determining the working height correctly

The actual working height is always around 2 m above the platform height (body reach from the guardrail). A scissor lift with 10 m platform height allows work up to approx. 12 m.

Calculating load capacity realistically

Rule of thumb: number of persons × 100 kg + tool weight + material weight per work cycle = minimum rated load. STN EN 280 prohibits any overload. The integrated overload protection automatically blocks lifting.

Compact models such as the Genie GS 1432m E-Drive (6.30 m working height, 0.77 m width, 885 kg dead weight) pass through standard interior doors without modifications.

For maintenance work in high-bay warehouses with aisle widths below 1.50 m, specialised high-bay scissor lifts (HAB S280, HAB S320, Holland Lift HL330) with up to 33 m working height are available.

Operators must be briefed in line with applicable Slovak safety rules (Act No. 124/2006 Coll.) and have the required operator competence. The briefing should be documented. A visual and function check before each start-up is recommended in line with applicable Slovak safety rules.
